We recently had to move one of our switches so that it was just barely in reach of an uplink cable. It connected, and worked, but the cable was strained, and also happened to reach only a PoE port on the switch (the uplink didn't need PoE). Pulling a new, longer cable was possible, but challenging (200 foot run, passing through many challenging passages). So, I bought this coupler so I could add a 1-foot patch cable. This coupler works perfectly, no networking issues so far, and just 1-foot longer lets me drape the end of the cable run in a relaxed (not strained) way, and plug it into a non-PoE port on the switch. This was a very affordable solution, easy to implement, and effective. My cables (both uplink and patch) are Cat5e.
