As synthrapol 's primary use is for stripping oils and finishes and removing excess dye after hand dyeing ( which I do) I will reserve judgement until such time as I can use this for other applications. 2 stars down as it did not work for one process mentioned above 3 stars as I didn't realize a product like this existed until I researched how to remove red colour's runs off cream cotton upholstery fabric, but I do have other multiple uses for this product It's not available in Australia except through desertcart from what I can see. So my 3 stars are high hopes ,it will make dyeing a lot easier with better results. I use it in the washing machine after I tie-dye clothing to keep the colors from bleeding together. However, I have learned in my new "modern" washing machine it does not fill up with water fast enough and colors can sometimes bleed anyway. I have to mix the Synthrapol in water first and add it to the machine immediately or do it in a bucket, agitate the tie-dye clothing, and then pour it all in the washer. **Q: What is the difference between Synthraphol and Retayne?** A: Retayne fixes dye to fabric and should be used to wash fabric that bleeds or may bleed PRIOR to using in a quilt or other project. Synthrapol is a detergent that suspends dye particles in wash water so that they do not reattach to fabric.
