After much consideration, I filled with pine shavings for hamsters from Walmart. The bag was a 500 cubic in bag (????) that cost under $5 in the pet section. I used about half the bag and filled both pieces to about 95% capacity. I live in Florida and its super humid, but have had NO problems so far. Of course, I haven't allowed it to get wet and don't intend to. I would definitely buy again!!!! **Q: So if it's unfilled, what is the best thing to fill it up with?** A: I would suggest heavy plastic pellets. Commonly used for filling Corn Hole game bags. Mouth of the water bottle is wider than a funnel and fills bag quicker.
