Review: There is no starter culture with the Deluxe Sourdough Bread Kit! but the tools are very useful - I originally awarded this set 2 stars because, much to my surprise, there is no sourdough starter in the Sourdough Starter Kit. Very annoyed. However after using this set for 2 months, making about 8 loafs, I am glad I bought the Set. The tools are very useful and the recipe for sourdough is a great place to start. Everything is well made and all are utilitarian. The Dutch dough mixer helps enormously, the lame (for scoring the bread before baking) is easy to use and I like the extra razor blades. I use the Teflon transfer sling for moving the proofed dough to my Dutch oven and for baking the bread, preventing burning on the bottom and easy removal after baking. The Banneton keeps the proofing dough shaped and safe during the rest in the refrigerator overnight. Separately the items would add up to significantly more than the set. Get this if you want a head-start on you baking career. Half a Star off for no starter culture. I bought mine on desertcart. Baking sourdough is Zen and this set is worth every penny.

**Q: Just received my set but the basket smells like manure, is there any way to get rid of this smell?**
A: Wipe down your bread proofing basket with a solution made of equal parts water and white vinegar.  Then, sprinkle it with baking soda, and allow it to dry completely. If possible, dry it in full sun.

**Q: How long (inches) is the wooden handle of the dough whisk?**
A: The Danish dough whisk's handle is 6.7 inches (17 cm).

**Q: I need a dough bowl for biscuits, will this work**
A: Yes! These tools and the basket will work to let your dough rest. Make sure you dust your basket with rice flour or some kind of flour so it doesn't stick.

I originally awarded this set 2 stars because, much to my surprise, there is no sourdough starter in the Sourdough Starter Kit. Very annoyed. However after using this set for 2 months, making about 8 loafs, I am glad I bought the Set. The tools are very useful and the recipe for sourdough is a great place to start. Everything is well made and all are utilitarian. The Dutch dough mixer helps enormously, the lame (for scoring the bread before baking) is easy to use and I like the extra razor blades.
