Will is absolutely right. My Echo gave out after years of use (suspect battery failed) so I bought the Wifi versions and it sux in that it will quit recording and not tell you, not completely download sometimes. Bought another Echo. **Q: Has anyone had the dim display problem? I am on my second one with this problem. No help from customer service. Buyer beware.** A: Yes. Buyer beware. My livescribe 8g echo display died after 30 months. Without a display the pen is useless. When I do interviews I need to be able to glance at the recording device (iPhone, recorder or pen) and know instantly whether it is on and recording. Or if the battery charge is running low. Customer service was polite, understanding, and ultimately useless. Best they would offer was a 30% discount on a full-price 2G. In other words, about what Amazon sells the pen for. If you absolutely need this tool--because it is unique and useful--then plan on buying a replacement every 2 to 3 years. I am flabbergasted at the way the manufacturer is handling this problem. **Q: How many sheets of paper come with the starter pack?** A: The starter pack we received only had a small (50 sheet) single subject booklet. **Q: Is it better to get the Wi-Fi version or just simply get the Echo?
