So put the slug into the opening with the flats facing out then screw the actuator in the axel **Q: Is this the blade or pin connector for the actuator?** A: I don’t remember. It is to convert the old style thermal actuator to the newer style electric actuator. A good upgrade. **Q: Where does the brown wire go?** A: I routed mine to the FWD shifter and attached it to the hot wire going to transfer case switch. **Q: Does anyone know the size of the steel slug used in this kit? I wanna make my own and save some money.** A: The dimensions are .7525" thick, 1.19" wide. Was an upgrade to the old thermal actuator , so had to install new wiring harness as well . Works great so far .. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This is the review you want to read! *by on Reviewed in the United States 24 November 2016* Update: This harness and actuator are still working flawlessly on my 93 K1500 in Minnesota weather. I have had them installed for the past 4 years and they are still the best $100 investment I have made.Great product and along with the actuator (600-101) it is well worth the price. I am sure you could build this harness yourself for half the price but overall it is plug and play which has to be worth something as far as convenience goes. The actuator seems a little mickey mouse being that it is all plastic but supposedly these things last longer and are more reliable than the junk thermal unit that you are replacing. The picture of the actuator shows some pipe sealing tape on the threads but mine didn't come with any on it so I added some of my own. Figured it couldn't hurt. The most important thing I can tell you is that when you get to the part of the instructions where they have you splicing the extra brown wire in this harness into an existing wire under your truck, do yourself a favor and throw the instructions away or better yet use them as fire starter. Rather than making a splice under your truck in a very difficult location that is exposed to the elements and is likely to corrode, make your connection inside of your truck cab. If you do this, you do not need to make a splice into another wire, you can make your power connection in an open slot in the "convenience center" located under your dash just behind the parking brake foot lever. I have read other reviews where guys have done this and made their connection at the middle spade of the slot called "DRK GRN". Well, my 1993 K1500 doesn't have a slot called DRK GRN with three terminals in it (neither does my buddy's 1994). If your truck does, congratulations!, you can make your connection there. In my case, I used a voltage meter to find a terminal in the convenience center that has 12V ONLY when the key is in the run position. If you don't have a volt meter handy, I'll make it very easy for you. On the right side of the panel, approximately half way up, there is a brown wire with a white connector plugged in. The next terminal to the left should be open (at least it was on my truck), make your connection there. Use a female spade connector and plug the brown wire from your new harness into the terminal. This is a small pin connection but a female spade connector will still work. Just as an FYI, the brown wire with white connector right next door is the same wire that the instructions want you to splice into under your truck. Both of these terminals in the convenience center are on the same circuit. At the end of the day, any terminal in the panel that has 12V when the key is turned on will work.If you are efficient with your wire routing, there is just enough wire to get to the convenience center. I made my penetration through the firewall with a 1/4" drill bit just above where the hood release cable goes through. I also installed a small rubber grommet to prevent wire chaffing which I would recommend you do as well. My 4X4 now engages almost instantly (major improvement)! Best hundred bucks I have ever spent.As a side note, don't bother trying to talk with dorman customer service, they have no clue what they are talking about.This has been a long review with a lot of information in it but I hope it helps you guys. I know this is the review I wish I had before I did the job. Total install is less than an hour. Routing and zip tying the brown wire is what takes the most time. Second pair of hands/eyes would have made the job go faster as well.Good luck! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ So far it works like a charm *by on Reviewed in the United States 23 April 2017* Update: today was about 40 or so degrees out, the sun was shining and the snow was melting, so naturally there would be puddles of water on the roadway. I hit one such puddle today, and it caused the electronic actuator to short out and try to engage 4wd while I was going about 30 mph in 2hi. Now the actuator wont engage at all, but the 4wd light is illuminated.Hey Dorman!? Whats the lifetime warranty say about puddles?? Not sure what to do here.Purchased with the mechanical actuator for a retrofit on a 92 k 1500. So far it works like a charm. Plug and play with the existing two prong connector to the actuator, and one simple connection to key on power. No splice needed. Those wire taps are a problem waiting to happen. Had enough length to do the job and then some.
