Review: Perfection - I was looking for a new Amplifier for about a year and finally pulled the trigger on the A-S1100 and I could not be happier. I had my mind set on a tube amplifier but after reading so many positive reviews of this I went with the integrated option. I'm running this with a Technics SL-1210M5G turntable with a Grado red cart and Monitor Audio Silver towers. I primarily play a wide range of vinyl, from jazz to Indi, and classic rock. The first thing I noticed was how much brighter and clean my albums sounded. I could hear so much more detail in the records without it being too punchy or overly bright. The receiver is built like a tank, and every detail seems well thought out. The back end is set up nicely with plenty of space between each input. Speakers were easily connected with a banna plugs. I'm looking forward to hearing this after breaking in it a little more but so far I'm very impressed. Review: Your last amplifier - This Yamaha is the absolute best value per dollar integrated on the market. Gobs of power with a completely flat, neutral presentation. Anyone who thinks this amplifier is harsh needs to look at their upstream sources. Before this amplifier I had been through literally dozens of components searching for that right piece. It's been 5 years with this amp now and I have zero desire to look for anything else. I have tried it with half a dozen different speakers from the likes of Totem, ADS, Vandersteen and Snell. You would wire your amp speakers output into the back of the sub. This drops off the signal. Then it has speaker outs on the sub. Those outs use speaker wire to go into your speakers. The "downside" to this is your speakers etc will have the subwoofer amp sound signature to it. Could be bad, could be good, but you're buying a 2K dollar amp, you'd probably want it's sound with that. 2) This one is a bit more oofy but, it's how you can hook up subs like I do on my 1978 Pioneer SA 9500 II. You have Pre Out and Main In on the back of the receiver. We're going to use Y splitters on those. What you need a is a 1 male / 2 female splitter. You'll need two of those splitters. You'll need some interconnects as well (rca cables). Plug a male end into your pre-outs. Each pre-out gets one. So your pre-out left has 2 female ends open now. Connect a cable from the pre out left into the main in left. The other end is going to go into an RCA left on your sub. Now do the same with your right RCA. Both of these allow your sub's volume to go with your amp volume knob. 2) is the more confusing one but most worth it so your speakers are driven purely by your amp. **Q: What is the difference between this and the R-N803?** A: A-S series are totally different from R-N models! A-s are Integrated Amps and R-N are Receivers. A-S are much higher quality and performance and thus more $$$. **Q: These are about 1,500 usd in Japan, why the huge price premium here?** A: Don't know. It is very well matched with Martin Logan Sequel 2 speaker which needs 80 - 200 Watts per channel. This is 2nd review one and half year after the first one. I added some gears to my system. For symphony, this amp is better with Yamaha NS-1000M speakers. Also I purchased Willsenton R8 tube amp and found they are very different. But both are very enjoyable so I am listening them changed weekly. Tube amp is warm and delicate and Yamaha is very powerful and accurate. I tried some vintage amps but they are not reliable. If you cannot fix the broken amp, don’t buy vintages.
