I printed 5,000 pages of full text with small color images on many pages with just the initial ink cartridges. I was printing medical textbook pages. Black ran out around 2,500 pages. I reset it and it printed for another 2,500 before it finally started printing poorly. The color cartridges are still the originals but I suspect they will be done soon. To reset cartridge meter on printer, you must first cancel your print job, then you press cancel and secure at the same time. You will see names of each color and b&w cartridge the printer accepts. Scroll through and reset each one with the onscreen prompts. Then you can keep on printing. From experience, you also might want to take the cartridges out and gently move them around to settle the ink particles as they run low. **Q: good photo printing** A: We print newsletters with photos in them. The colors are very accurate compared to my other printer (also a Brother). The resolution is not portrait quality by any means, but good enough for us. **Q: What is the page yield of the black cartridge for regular text pages?** A: Hello. The TN-336BK yields up to 4,000 pages based on 5% coverage. Honestly, for someone doing higher volume printing (500+ pages per month) the TN-336BK is the only real choice. The price different is not that great.
