Thumbelina lives with her mother. She is lonely for a friend her own size. One fateful moonlit night, she meets the Fairy Prince Cornelius, and falls in love. Throughout her difficult journey and separation from her home, other well-meaning creatures try to tell Thumbelina what she should do and who she should be. Her only faithful friend is the charming Parisian swallow, Jacqimo, who gently encourages Thumbelina to never give up and follow her heart. Staying true to yourself and not caving in to the pressure of what others think you should do, and what they think is best for you, is difficult to do. This movie will strengthen anyone's resolve to resist anyone else trying to make them into something they don't feel they are meant to be. The opening scenes of the swallow's flight high over Paris is breathtaking. Barry Manilow's songs are wonderful, absolutely wonderful. "Let Me Be Your Wings" is as good as Aladdin's "A Whole New World." The ending credits have charming montages of the characters, so watch the credits roll to the very end. It's a clean, cute movie that my daughter grew up with and wanted to see it again. She is a teenager now and remembered this movie from the top of her head. It made a beautiful impression and memory that she remembered and requested to own it. It's a family movie for all ages.
