I was already familiar with the original text of this story, having read it before many years ago, and revisiting it in this way, with beautiful illustrations aiding the imagination, was a true feast for the senses. Remaining decidedly "creepy" after all these years speaks for itself, and this new presentation is exactly what my son- and I- needed. Not exactly an avid reader yet, it seems that this has allowed his imagination to flourish, and he's reading at a pace I had hoped for. As for me, I simply enjoyed it.
