Read this before ordering. *by B***H on Reviewed in the United States on February 11, 2015* PLEASE read this before ordering. Just wrote a review on the 511 TacLite Pro (same company and series). First I think I am going to love these pants and may upgrade to a 5 star. I bought these and the TacLite Pro looking for a very durable work pant for around our farm. The reviews on the 511's have been great and have not been happy with the wear of Riggs and Carhartt (even their 12 oz fabrics). I wasn't sure whether I should buy the TacLite Pro or these regular TDU's. We have to work in areas of bramble, brush and briars, and wanted something to make that easy, as well as comfort, functionality and durability. I liked aspects of both the Prolite and the regular TDU, especially the heavier weight of the TDU for brush work. Key comments:Size: The TDU's come in S, M, and L sizing only. The Lites you order via waist size and inseam. I usually wear between a 32 and 34 in the other work brands. The TDU M is supposed to fit 31.5 to 35". Side note TacLite comes in more typical Waist and Inseam sizing. I ordered the Lites in a 32W - 30Inseam and the Regular TDU's in a M Short. Both arrived on the same day. I tried the Lites first, a little apprehensive that these might be a little snug, especially with my winter layers on (thermal top, regular underpants, thermal bottom, and a turtle neck). The Lites fit GREAT!!! The elastic waist made them easy to put on etc!! I was sure the regular TDU's would be even at least as good since these also have an elastic waist and the medium waist range was 31.5" to 35". COULD NOT EVEN BUTTON OR SNAP!!!!!! The TDU Regular pants are flat out sized wrong!! I have never worn a 35", let alone with an adjustable elastic waist. I could VERY comfortably fit into the 511 TacLite Pro 32" pants and could not even button the regular TDU which should fit up to a 35" waist!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I liked the weight of the pants and most other things about them, so I ordered the L Short. The L is for waist size 35.5" to 39". These arrived and are slightly baggy, but fit about like the M should have fit. I am sure a true 36" or 37" waist person would not fit into a L.Other notes: The pocket design on the regular TDU is quite different from the TacLite: no small front pockets ( a drawback IMO); back pockets are small and not slanted (another drawback IMO); front cargo's are large, but a little low, there are nice dividers in these (not in the Lite's) which is helpful.Bottom line - I think I will really like these pants, but would love them if 511 fixes the sizing fiasco, and changes the packet design to be similar to the TacLite Pro. ### ⭐⭐⭐ First Impressions. Not bad. *by B***H on Reviewed in the United States on November 28, 2019* This is a first impression review (hopefully I'll remember to update this) coming from someone who normally wears UF-PRO P40 Tac-2 pants, so I guess you can say this is a somewhat unfair/hard review considering the price difference and reputation between the two brands.3 star review as of 11/28/19. Not a bad pant, but not enough hours spent in it yet to say whether it can go 4 or 5 stars.tl;drOdd sizing interpretation but similar to USGI uniform sizing. Don't like the rear pant pockets. Some areas of pants could use stretchy fabric for mobility. Custom tailoring for my own tastes. Still nice pants for the price. If you wear 30x30 pants then "Small-Short" will be okay.The reason I bought these pants is because I was looking for cheaper alternatives for a beater pant when I'm hiking or doing field work for my regional park service. The UF-PRO pants are great but I wanted to change things up.The sizing can be puzzling since they don't tell you hard numbers. I normally wear 30x30 or 29x30 depending on the pants, and looking at reviews I went and got the small-short size. When I received the pants the length is just a tiny tad shorter than I'd like but still works just fine coming in at about 38-38.5" from the bottom of the hem to the top of the waist of the pant. The waist however seems tight. While there's elastic in the pant to accommodate a certain range of waist sizes within "small", it felt a bit tight for someone who normally wears 30". That's probably due to the elastic continuously compressing my waist, hence the tight feeling. No biggie.If you're familiar with USGI pant sizing, then these will be relatively similar except the waist may or may not feel a little tight due to the elastic waist.The seat is reinforced with a additional layer, and it is curved like you see in the product picture and it is triple stitched so that you won't have an issue with blowouts around the crotch (or so I hope). I like this but I think I'd still prefer the stretchy fabric on the UF-PRO pants on the seat. It's the nature of cargo pants but I feel that stretchy fabric could have been used here and there.The knees have insertion points in the inside for kneepads, however I do not have the knee pads so basically this area is double layered fabric.The hem of the pants has drawstrings in case you need to tighten it down to keep debris out of your boots, or wear it in uniform with whatever agency you work for. I did not need this so I just cut them off.I have a few issues with the pockets. I cannot agree with the use of velcro flaps, particularly with the back pockets. Access to items in the back pockets is already difficult enough because the back pockets are awfully tight to begin with. I do not feel safe putting my cellphone back there because I'm paranoid that my phone screen might break under the pressure of my own butt squeezing against the pant (another reason why I'd like to have stretchy material on the seat area, to allow leeway especially when squatting). The rear pockets are also relatively small. I have medium hands and they struggle to get in there.The front pocket and cargo pockets are reasonably spacious.The pants are a straight cut. I am not really used to straight cut pants because the knee area tends to rub against each other which makes a lot of noise. So what I did was just crudely tighten the knee area as if to mimic crye combat pants where you can tighten the knee with the velcro tabs except I just folded the fabric and sewed the 5.11 pants. I'll probably replace it with elastic instead at some later point if I have time.Weight wise they sit at 1 5/8lbs while my UF-PROs are just half an ounce lighter. So nothing significant in weight gain or loss which is a little bit of a shame since I was hoping these 5.11 pants would be lighter.There is no feature for breathability on those hot days. The only option is to let your zipper down. I'll have to consider in cutting some slits for additional air flow to my legs.For now I think these pants are still pretty nice for what they are compared to my UF-PRO pants but mobility isn't as good. Time will tell how long they last for this price. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ These are the greatest pants known to man... *by B***R on Reviewed in the United States on February 12, 2020* Incredibly durable, they wash well (no shrinking), water repellent, very comfy, and they make my butt look fantastic.The sizes might be a little confusing. I'm 6'3" with a 36" waste, and the XL Long fits perfectly. Keep in mind the waste band expands with some stretchy thingamajigs, so I could probably fit into a Large Long, but I like the added room in the thighs.
