I wanted something where the bars weren't too far apart (which would cause too much internal rotation of the shoulder joint--bad news) and this thing delivered. While this is attached, you can still lower the bench and use it flat and I haven't noticed it getting in the way when doing other exercises with the bench. However, if you want to remove it, it takes about 5 seconds. I'm about 6' and it was high enough off the ground for me to use it.
