Review: Don't but if scared of heights!!!! - I was in 2 minds if this Umbrella really would be windproof. Well I tried it out today and here is my honest review. I live in a windy coastal town of Ilfracombe, Devon and we certainly get our fair share of wind and rain here. Going for my daily stroll around the local park it started to drizzle so I opened the Umbrella with a touch of a button and was impressed at the speed of erection. The overall size is good but I'd score the handle comfort just 7/10 as I found the weight a little on the heavy side. Whilst standing at the end of the park pond admiring the ducks...the wind had started building up and the brollie took a little shaking but was still good and sturdy. All was well UNTIL...... a gust of wind and I felt the brollie lift up a few inches and I had to hold on firmly. Concerned I would let go as the Umbrella slightly lifted again I grabbed the hold of handle with my other hand as tight as possible and as soon as I did, my whole body lifted off the ground and began slowly raising into the air. Scared I was going to fall I gripped the handle tighter and put on a brave smile as my feet past just inches away from the heads of shocked children who stopped feeding the ducks as they gasped and stared up at me. I was at least 20 ft in the air by now and being scared of heights I closed my eyes as the brollie lifted me over the duck pond and even higher into the air. The brollie felt sturdy and kept me dry from the light showers which i score 9/10 but when a gust of wind came it made a sudden voilent judder, I opened my eyes and saw that I was heading in the direction of the Harbour. I was flying over the rooftops of the harbour shops and got caught a stunning birdeye view of the little chapel on a hill and the Verity Statue. The rain had stopped now and people below where looking up and pointing at me and a seagull flew close, I forgot my fears and let go of the handle with one hand as i reached out to stroke it and missed. Said gull wasnt interested in getting affection from me, he had already made a fast decend to a bunch of unaware holiday makers and the carnage that followed in the next few seconds was shocking. Child screaming, mother shaking her fist, chips sprawled over the floor and the dad yelling bad language as he chased seagull who was now making his way out to sea with his mouthful of chips. That's when I saw it... the Bristol Channel. Comming to my senses and remembering I'm flying and was heading out to sea I started to panic and began kicking my legs in hope that I would lower. Then.... I was in total shock.... to my left, a short distant away from me came floating down was a kind looking gentleman with grey hair and halfmoon galsses on his nose and a newpaper tucked under one arm. He was also holding silmiar a looking umbrella He appeared very smartly dressed with a calm but slighty cocky expression as he held onto his handle with just one hand. He smiled at me on his way down and pointed to his own Unbrella handle and amongst the sound of me heavily panting with fear, I heard him faintly say "press the button 3 times" and he then landed ever so gently onto the pier and folded his brollie and walked into the pier cafe. Clicking 3 times i felt myself gently decend towards Veritys (statue) and my feet landed gently on her head and relieved I did not go out to sea. I heard the sound of sirens approaching whilst standing on the statues head looking around for a way to climb down. Thank goodness for our local fire crew who in no time set up there ladder and i was safely brought down. The fire officer rolled his eyes when he saw my new umbrella and said it was the 3rd rescue this week and that the umbrella should come with a warning and instructions. I agreed and thanked everyone and began to walk home. The heavens opened and it was absolutely pooring down with rain... but i was happy to get wet this time... no way was i using the brollie again until i contacted the suppilier and requested instructions. Still waiting to hear back. Overall happy with purchase.
Review: an excellent product - As far as collapsable umbrellas go, I have traditionally bought cheap light-weight ones from supermarkets. After precious little use they usually disintegrated. They didn’t matter much because I live in Essex, one of the driest counties in the country. But as climate change takes hold and it rains so much of the time, even in Essex, it was time for a change of plan. The Repel umbrella is just what I needed. It’s robust and doesn’t blow inside out. The fabric stays fitted to the ends of the metal rods and doesn’t get detached at the first puff of wind. It’s heavier and bigger than the cheap collapsables but it’s worth it because of the durability. Erecting it is easy and can be done with only one hand. There is a button you press at the end of the handle, and hey presto! The wingspan is a handy 96 centimetres. I liked the pattern on the inside: blue sky and a few white clouds. It would have been nice if that was replicated on the outer upper surface which is plain black. Collapsing the umbrella needs both hands. You press the other button and the business end folds up at once but you then have to press down on the end of the umbrella to bring the fabric back down to the base of the handle. All in all, a thoroughly decent and impressive piece of equipment. It’s well worth the extra money. Dr Paul R. Sealey

## Questions & Answers

**Q: While it’s great to know it’s sized closed, given it’s an umbrella it would be more useful to know how big it is when it is open.**
A: Maximum diameter is 94cm/37 inches so a good size.

**Q: As i'm small, i'm afraid that i'll be swept along with the wind. has anyone had any problems with that.**
A: A few bricks in the back pack sort out the issue for me

**Q: Anyone claimed under the warranty?**
A: Yes. I bought my umbrella in 2018 and claimed under the warranty today (Feb 2020) as it would flip inside out often and eventually the spokes have broken. Customer service was excellent. They responded within minutes and said they will send a replacement for free.

**Q: how much does it weigh?**
A: The weight is mentioned in the description of the product numerous times. Try reading it.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very strong spring.
*by M***R on 2 February 2026*

A really good umbrella, only used it a couple of times so far. Didn't blow inside in the wind but I do find it very hard to close as the spring is very strong. But found a way round it , I press it onto a hard surface and it closes ok, I just don't have the strength in my hands anymore. I love the stars on the underneath of the umbrella.
