Pulled the knob and cover off then sprayed it vinegar for a couple days, using a removal tool everything came apart easily, not sure I needed the tool but happy I had it just in case. New valve was lightly greased from Moen, slid right in, reassembled and now have hot water. New valve turns super easy compared to old valve. If your valve turns stiff or needs a tug to pull out, a good push to close, it could be a warning. Rotate the white nut 1/4 each way to unstick the cartridge in the valve body, then pull out with pliers. There are instructions in the package which show what to do. Having said that, I’ve had to take extreme measures twice on a cartridge firmly stuck in a tub/shower fixture. The Moen puller tool simply pulls the guts out of the cartridge, leaving the body behind. The trick to getting the body out is to run a 1/2 thread tap in the valve body and then put an 11/16ths socket with the open end on the fixture body opening. Run a 1/2 inch bolt through the square socket opening and tighten. The cartridge should pull out as the bolt is tightened. Greasing the O-rings with dielectric grease on the replacement cartridge before installation may help prevent it from sticking in the future. **Q: Will I need the additional cost cartridge puller to remove old cartridge?** A: It depends on how tightly the old cartridge is seized in the faucet body, but generally if the cartridge can't be removed by rotating it 90 degrees with the included plastic tool and then pulling it out with pliers, very likely the additional cost cartridge puller will not work but will result only in the center of the cartridge coming out. Then the outer portion of the cartridge will have to be pulled out with an Easy Out extractor bit or a bolt and a wooden dowel. The latter method is very effective but first requires cutting threads into the seized cartridge portion with a 0.5" or 12mm tap (oil the tap) for at least 2" and then inserting a 3/8" diameter wooden dowel, approximately 1.5" - 2" long, then tightening a bolt at least 3" long and with threads matching the tap so it presses against the dowel and makes the bolt pull out the remaining part of the cartridge. **Q: Does this also work in a Moen Posi-Temp tub-shower push-pull valve?** A: This is not a posi-temp cartridge. **Q: Is there a difference between the Moen 1200 replacement cartridge the Moen 1200b cartridge for single handle faucet?** A: Basically, the 1200 is for single handle faucet's made before 2002 The 1225 model is for faucets made after 2002. Water conservation is important but especially in a rv/travel trailer when your water supply is limited. The old knob actually pulled off too. During repair, it was determined there was no problem with the knob, but the valve was bad and the retaining clip had broke as well. When using this for your repair make sure your retaining clip is in good condition. It is a separate part, so order it as well if you need it. It is the part that keeps this valve, handle, and everything locked in place, it is a gold U-shaped retaining clip with a little hole in the middle and little protusions on the ends which installs beneath the stop gap (if you search" moen retaining clip" in Amazon you will see it). I highly recommend this part to repair your fixture instead of simply replacing it, replacing it fixed the leak, and the original part was from 1972. I hope it lasts another 30-40 years.
