In school I purchased 2 mdf stethoscopes, my first last 3 months until it was stolen, the second gave me 18 solid years of use day in and day out. Some of the rubber started to go and the ear piece has been replaced more times than I can count. This spring the quality of sound has become muffled and I came to terms with needing to find a replacement. Imagine my surprise that mdf still sells this stethoscope for almost the exact same price that I paid in 2008. Same packins and same quality. As a person that is very much creature of habit I decided that mdf has been excellent throughout my career and that instead of upgrading to something with more bells and whistles I'd stick with the tried and true. HOWEVER after saying that one does have to ask if your using it for any special medical purpose other than to listen to breath sounds, basic heart sounds, inter abdominal functioning, blood pressure. Just as there are some special things you would want a stethoscope to have if are a cardiologist and need a stethoscope to give you better sounds and picking up high and low frequencies, or if working with pregnant women and need one that is more sensitive for inter- abdominal listening there are some specialty needs that vet processes have of some that are made a bit differently.
