This binocular pillar-stand stereo microscope offers three magnification powers, 20X, 40X & 80X. It comes with a versatile illumination system that provides both incident (top) lighting and transmitted (bottom) illumination. You can choose between incident illumination shining down onto the object or transmitted illumination through the frosted stage plate. The first is used for the observation of three-dimensional objects and the second for the observation of slides. This microscope offers high resolution and good depth within a broad field of view. Review: Very nice microscope - I bought this at the recommendation of a watch repairer for my burgeoning watch restoration hobby. It is extremely well made, and has a clear and powerful view. I ended up returning it in favor of a digital microscope that is easier to see and can record pictures and video - however, this microscope technically did everything I needed. It's construction is heavy and solid. It's not accidentally sliding off of your desk or being knocked over. The lighting is excellent, and is convenient to switch between the two light sources. The instructions indicate that there may be halogen alternatives to the bulbs used, and for my purposes I would have looked at purchasing those to provide a little colder light temperature. The magnification is excellent. I didn't even unpack the high-powered eyepieces and the magnification was still more than enough for my needs. Overall, this is a well-made, well-packaged optical microscope that does what it does very well.

**Q: I am looking for a camera adapter. Does anyone know the mm of the eye piece ports? Thanks.**
A: The adapter on my camera that fits is marked 30.5 mm but please get a cheap 6 inch metric small metal scale and check the size.

**Q: Can you use both the top & bottom lights at the same time?**
A: No.  There is one switch which to press to different positions for top, bottom, and off.  I often use the clear platform and look at the specimen lighted from the top and then switch to light it from the bottom.

**Q: Can this microscope be connected directly to my PC or laptop?**
A: No. To do anything like that, you'd need to buy a separate camera, and even then, this scope isn't really set up to to accommodate a camera. If you're hoping to show images on a computer, you should definitely go with one of the other options that come with a camera.

**Q: Does the 80x refer to total magnification?  Does it have a zoom feature?**
A: 80X total. The main objective can switch between 2X and 4X and it comes with 10X and 20X eyepieces. So you can combine to get 20X, 40X, 40X, and 80X.

I bought this at the recommendation of a watch repairer for my burgeoning watch restoration hobby. It is extremely well made, and has a clear and powerful view. I ended up returning it in favor of a digital microscope that is easier to see and can record pictures and video - however, this microscope technically did everything I needed. It's construction is heavy and solid. It's not accidentally sliding off of your desk or being knocked over. The lighting is excellent, and is convenient to switch between the two light sources. The instructions indicate that there may be halogen alternatives to the bulbs used, and for my purposes I would have looked at purchasing those to provide a little colder light temperature. The magnification is excellent. I didn't even unpack the high-powered eyepieces and the magnification was still more than enough for my needs. Overall, this is a well-made, well-packaged optical microscope that does what it does very well.
