The reel is smooth and has handled everything from backwater fishing for redfish, trout, to offshore catching big cobia and grouper. I have had the best time with this reel - this was my first reel I ever bought. Last summer while fishing in Tampa I lost a small part on it that had rendered it basically useless. Today, while I am getting ready for summer fishing, I thought I'd call Wright and McGill (which is actually Eagle Claw) and see if I could get the part. I called there customer service line (720) 941-8700, and listened to the menu - I wasn't sure which option for my question so I presed zero. An operator answered in less than 5 second. She listened to what I was trying to do and transferred me. Again, someone answered the phone in under 5 seconds! It was the warranty center. I told the guy the part I needed and even gave a color description and he said "Yes, that the part". Then he asked for my name and address and the told me he'd send it out to me in a couple of days!!! He did not ask for money for shipping or anything, just I'll have it to you before the end of the week! AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! and a great reel! I also have the flats blue rod by Wright and McGill and it is also a great rod. I am still blown away by how simple my experience was in getting the part I needed. I AM A CUSTOMER FOR LIFE!!! Let's face it, most the reels made now a days are out of China and made of all the same crap components. So somehow, this one is an exception and well worth every penny. I have used it a few times now, and it performs better than my higher end reels.So an update as one reel broke.. the spool somehow stopped working properly. I had the reel replaced by Amazon. I have used the new reel at least 3 dozen times now and I plan on buying the larger models to replace my other reels.
