It detects water and I like the design. *by W***D on Reviewed in the United States on November 2, 2017* I haven't had it long but so far, so good. It works, even if I just lay a wet finger across the sensors, and I like the design.In case the description or other reviews haven't made it obvious, it comes assembled as a single unit but the bottom of the plastic box - the side with the sensors - separates so you can either stand the entire unit on the floor, sensors down, or detach the sensor plate to put it where water might be and keep the larger box elsewhere. I should point out that 'elsewhere' in this case means up to about 6 feet away because the two parts are connected by wire, but this is helpful because the main unit is NOT waterproof.I was disappointed by this at first because I needed to put it under the trap under my kitchen sink and any water would drip onto and potentially through the non-waterproof innards before it gets to the sensors, but since the two parts can be separated it's not an issue. The main unit has keyholes on the back so I was able to easily mount it to the side wall inside the cabinet under the sink.On that note, I do have one small complaint. The box the unit comes in has a template printed on the inside that you ought to be able to cut out and then use to mark where the holes should go for screws if you're going to mount the main unit. Unfortunately, the template is not to scale so other than the fact that it says the holes/screws need to be 2 5/16 inches apart, it's useless. On the other hand, if the template hadn't been there I wouldn't be complaining about it, I would have just measured between the keyholes on the back of the unit and mounted it without a template...like I did. So, a very minor complaint.I know it detects water so I just need to wait to see whether it lasts and whether it really does beep to indicate when the battery is low as advertised. Fingers crossed.Edit - 26 Feb 2018: It definitely works. A leak started exactly where I expected it might and the thing started screaming! It was so loud my cat hid at the other end of the house until I pulled the battery. Still no idea whether it also goes off when the battery is low. That update will have to wait.Edit - 7 Nov 2019: It still works. I know because I just tested it to see if the battery was dead. It's still using the original battery I installed two years ago and I should probably change it once a year like I do with my smoke detectors but I really want to find out whether the low battery warning works. Maybe I'll be able to comment on that one of these days...or years.Edit - 2 Sep 2020: I can finally report that the low battery warning works. I was going nuts for a couple days trying to figure out which of my smoke alarms was chirping. Didn't make any sense, especially since the chirping was 100% consistent but every 25 1/2 minutes. Don't ask me how I know that detail... I wouldn't mention this but I figure it might spare someone else the same maddening experience. Remember: one chirp every 25 1/2 minutes (though your mileage may vary). The original battery lasted nearly 3 years even though it had spent some time alarming (see my 2018 edit). I replaced the battery and laid one finger across the sensors and it worked immediately. Still going strong! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Every insurance company should require, if not provide these devices! You need one! *by K***S on Reviewed in the United States on October 21, 2018* Good product, and just trust me, get these and put them in!Hopefully you already have steel braided supply hoses on hour dishwasher and washing machine. If not, swap the rubber ones out for them.However, that is not the only possible source of a leak, as we discovered. Our neighbor put poison out for rodents. Which kills them, but not in a good way. They become insanely thirsty, and no amount of water will quench their thirst. Our little visitor found the drain hose at the back of our dishwasher. So when we'd run the dishwasher, it would leak out the back and flow under the flooring and cabinets. We didn't discover it until it was too late, the cabinets and floor were already ruined. :(The sensors for these sit right on the floor, so the first drop will cause them to sound. Another one we tried had a gap, and as a result, failed to detect a connection leak, but fortunately we discovered that one in time.These also have a low battery warning alarm, which is essential, for obvious reasons. We put one behind our washing machine next to our water heater, under the dishwasher and under every sink. One promptly detected leak will save you thousands! Insurance companies ought to give these out to their clients. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ These are very nice little alarms *by R***. on Reviewed in the United States on April 23, 2018* These are very nice little alarms. After inserting the 9v battery, they are easily tested. Lay you finger across the bottom two terminals - should give no alarm. Do the same after a quick lick of the finger and you will get a loud alarm. The alarm will stop when you remove the finger from the terminals. If you wish to cover a larger area - place a single layer of a paper towel or tissue to wick up the moisture from further away.
