A: No they not self locking. they have to be manually locked.  for the price they are pretty okay.

**Q: Can these castors be installed on a regular wooden kitchen chair without wheels?**
A: I don't know.  I replaced my caster wheels on my dining room chairs with these  because they have brakes whereas the previous ones didn't.   So far these have worked well.
