For the size 5, I put a couple of softer or less wide items in the fold of the deflated ball, such as socks and/or a toothbrush, then I add a few small items along the edges (please remember the ball is round, so there are gaps at the edges). I'd have to go back and check my notes from last year's boxes but, for example, a Casio folding calculator is a good fit. I admit it is difficult to get in a filled pencil pouch with the size 5, but, with the school supplies put in separately and the pouch simply folded or rolled up, you can get in a small pair of school scissors, a few mechanical or regular pencils, a highlighter, a SMALL pencil sharpener, 2 black pens, a blue pen and a red pen...and I've gotten in a roll of tape. IF you use the VERY small ones, you can get in a flashlight, even a SMALL crank one such as Coghlans. With the smaller balls I've been able to get in a few more items, such as a spork (carefully so no pointed ends face the ball).
